HOUSTON -

A motorcyclist is dead after a  hit-and-run accident in east Houston.

According to police, the driver of a Dodge Challenger was speeding westbound on Interstate 10 near the Uvalde Road exit at around 12:45 a.m Sunday

That is when the driver suddenly swerved from the far left lane across two lanes and slammed into the back end of a motorcycle.

Investigators believe he may have been trying to take that exit and didn't see the motorcycle.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene.

Another motorcyclist who was riding next to the victim waited at the scene for police.

Witnesses said the Challenger driver kept going for a couple of miles, then jumped out and abandoned the car on the side of the freeway.

Police were searching for that driver.
