HOUSTON -

Police say a motorcyclist is dead after he was hit by another vehicle on the highway.

It happened on South State Highway 288 near the Southwest Freeway around 8:20 p.m. Sunday.

Houston police said the 27-year-old motorcyclist was speeding when he failed to stay in his lane. The motorcycle was hit in the rear of a pickup truck.

Officials say the driver was tossed from the motorcycle. He died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.
