HOUSTON – A motorcycle rider is in the hospital after a fiery crash in southeast Houston.
Police said a man was traveling east bound on the South Loop and Highway 288, when he slammed into the back of a car.

The rider laid the motorcycle down on the freeway, where it caught fire.
Fortunately the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and padded body gear. Officers believe the gear saved the man's life.
The man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition.
No one in the car was hurt.
