Mother gives birth in front of Texas hospital

Father records entire situation from rush to hospital to curbside delivery

ROSENBERG, Texas – A Rosenberg couple has quite the story to tell after their son was born outside a hospital's valet entrance and it was all captured on video.

The baby's father, Troy Dickerson, was wearing a GoPro camera on his head throughout the entire ordeal -- from the rush to the hospital to the curbside delivery.

Kristin Dickerson was nearly two weeks overdue when her water broke last weekend. As Troy drove to the Texas Medical Center, he turned on the camera, thinking he would record some of the excitement on the way to the hospital, just as he had for the birth of their two other sons.

Kristin said she initially questioned whether she was really in labor, but that quickly changed as the couple left their home.

"By the time we got to the Sweetwater exit, I was pretty sure we weren't going to make it to the hospital," said Kristin.

As the couple headed to the Women's Pavilion at Texas Children's Hospital, Kristin told her husband to pull over at any hospital. Troy, still believing they would make it, kept driving.

Troy said reality set in when he pulled up in front of the hospital and Kristin told him she could feel a head. As he yelled for help and grabbed bags from the car, Kristin stepped out of the vehicle and then found herself unable to move.

"She had gotten out of the car and she had just froze, like stood there. And me and the valet guy were like, 'Sit down! Sit down in the wheelchair!'" said Troy.

"That's who I feel the worst for, the valet guy. Because he was saying, 'Ma'am, ma'am, sit in the wheelchair!' And I'm like, 'No! No!'" said Kristin.

Kristin ended up giving birth right outside the car, standing up.

"I said, 'On the next contraction, push.' And on the next contraction, she pushed and he came flying out," said Troy.

The baby boy, named Truett, was born at 2:05 a.m. on June 28.

Within seconds, hospital staff members were by Kristin's side, helping care for the newborn. Troy said it took him several minutes to realize his camera had been recording the entire time.

Kristin, a childbirth educator at the hospital, jokingly said she wouldn't be sharing her experience with future students.

"I tell my students, 'This will never happen to you, I promise!' But I do teach them about emergency birth so they'll be prepared for it, to take some of the fear out of it," said Kristin.
