HOUSTON – Most people know better than to pick a fight with a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, but a local gym has managed to make more than a dozen black belts mad.
Rene Ferguson said her 7-year-old son earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do though Bally's Total Fitness.
"He worked so hard, I mean he would miss baseball games to go to those belt tests," said Ferguson.
Ferguson said her son received his black belt in March. Ferguson said she paid Bally's $500 to get the official black belt certificate from Korea, which she has yet to receive.
"If you have the paper, you can go to other locations and they'll recognize you as a black belt," said Ferguson.
Blast Fitness bought out Bally's and took over in May. Since then, Ferguson has had a hard time trying to find out when she will finally receive that certificate her son earned.
A Blast Fitness district manager declined to comment, and said any questions should be directed toward the Tae Kwon Do master. Ferguson said she has no idea how to contact her son's teacher, since Blast Fitness canceled the martial arts program.
The manager from Blast Fitness said he would make phone calls to reach the corporate office for Bally's Total Fitness and try and make sure that certificate and others are delivered.
