Mother accused of beating son with belt

HOUSTON – A Houston mother is charged with injury to a child after investigators her son showed up to school with bruises and a laceration.

According to court documents, Corrita Ross, 33, is accused of beating her 10-year-old son with a belt because he did not go to school on time on September 17.

A school official told investigators the boy showed up late to school that day with with bruises and welts on his arms, legs, face and back.

According to court documents, the boy had a loop-shaped laceration to his left upper arm which was broken skin and slight bleeding, a linear bruise above the loop mark on the upper left arm, bruising to the back in multiple locations, and a loop mark to his left lower leg which was red in color.

Court documents state the boy said his mother got upset when she woke up and realized he had stayed home from school that morning.

Court documents show that Ross admitted she woke up between 12-12:30 p.m. that day and noticed her son was still at home and playing video games, and she got mad at him for not getting himself to school on time.
