More than 300 roosters seized in alleged cockfighting ring

Deputies say the property owners are facing possible charges

HOUSTON – Criminal charges are pending against two men after Harris County Sheriff's deputies say they discovered 377 roosters, illegal drugs, and money on their property.

On August 23, deputies were called to the property in the 14000 block of Sellers Road in north Harris County in response to a kidnapping complaint.

There was no evidence of a kidnapping, but deputies said they did find roosters in cages at the rear of the property.

They also say they confiscated three kilos of cocaine found in a hidden compartment of a vehicle, marijuana, and more than $40,000 in cash.

The roosters were allegedly used for so-called cock-fighting, which is illegal.

The animals were confiscated and turned over to the SPCA.

Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office and the SPCA assisted at the scene.
