According to court documents, witnesses said Alfaro and Casanova were together hours before the murder. According to prosecutors, Alfaro, a maintenance worker for a landlord, met Casanova while replacing an oven at a tenant's home.
The three drank together into the early morning hours of Feb. 3, prosecutors said, and then Alfaro and Casanova left and drove to Katy.
According to prosecutors, cameras outside the home captured the two men parking their cars in the neighborhood and getting into a confrontation. Casanova fell to the ground, and his body was dragged through the grass, according to the report.
After Casanova’s body was discovered, deputies found a broken watch, a blood trail and other jewelry in the neighborhood. Several days later, police issued a warrant for Alfaro’s arrest and found him hiding out in a home in Fort Bend County. Hours later, he posted a $50,000 bond.
“My client is anxious to get the facts out to the community,” said Alfaro’s defense attorney, Wilvin Carter. “Once all of the facts are out there, you will see that my client was defending himself.”
Alfaro does not deny that he was involved in a confrontation with Casanova. According to his attorney, he did not suffer any injuries in the altercation.
