HOUSTON -

Roaches are never approved for a menu in Houston, but city health inspectors still find them in restaurant kitchens across town.

At Hong Long Vietnamese Restaurant at 18405 Tomball Parkway, inspectors saw a roach crawling across the food prep area. They also reported male employees handling food without wearing hair-nets or caps and an employee touching fruit with her bare hands. Inspectors issued the restaurant a final notice for the violations.

Food temperatures were the issue at many other restaurants. At Peppercini's Deli at 11720 Katy Freeway, inspectors report that chopped beef was not being reheated correctly.

At Navy Seafood at 7274 Scott St., inspectors said shrimp, fish and eggrolls were off temperature.

Inspectors condemned 10 to 15 pounds of rice, cornbread dressing and turkey wings at RKG Yo Mama's Soul Food at 5223 Antoine. Inspectors said the condemned food was off temperature and not cooled properly overnight.
