It's a big weekend in Galveston with Mardi Gras kicking off on the island. And we've got plenty of other free events happening all around town in this week's Freebie Friday.

The Mardi Gras Galveston celebrations include the golf cart parade, art car parade and family parade all happening Saturday. Then on Sunday, the Mardi Gras entertainment district will be free to the public with two more parades and live music.

Our friends at Houston on the Cheap suggest this event: a free clinic on the ABC's of organic gardening. It's happening Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at Cornelius Nursery on Dairy Ashford.

Lacenterra at Cinco Ranch is throwing a free birthday bash for the public, featuring musing, face painting and other activities for the kids. It's from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Missouri City is inviting residents to plant a tree along the Oyster Creek Trail. It's happening on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Tools, training and refreshments will be provided.

And join Houston police Chief Charles McClelland and other guests at 11 a.m. Saturday to celebrate Black History Month at the HPD Sunnyside storefront. They'll have food, music and giveaways.
