It's a big weekend in Houston with rodeo events and another weekend of Mardi Gras. Here are some great free ideas for the whole family, from our friends at Houston on the Cheap.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo annual parade winds through the streets of downtown Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. It'll be packed with floats, bands, horses and more.

Local 2's Lauren Freeman, Anthony Yanez and Keith Garvin will be in the Downtown Rodeo Parade.

Celebrate Texas Independence Day all weekend at Washington on the Brazos. Enjoy live music, historic demonstrations and re-enactments.

Mardi Gras continues with the Jamboree and Gumbo Showdown on Saturday, starting at 4 p.m. at Market Square Park in downtown Houston. Enjoy free tastings and live music, plus stick around for the art car drive about, starting at 9 p.m.

Head over to Deerbrook Mall on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. for a celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday.They'll be a reading of green eggs in ham, in character, face paintings, magic, and more.
