Mom, toddler hide in closet during home invasion

HUMBLE – A mother and her young son were forced to hide in a closet Tuesday afternoon when three men broke into their house.

It happened around noon near White Arbor Court and Bishops Gate Lane in northeast Harris County.

"My wife called me and said there was a guy knocking on the door real hard and it was not normal," Alejandro Vasquez said.

Vasquez, who was not home at the time, told his wife not to answer the door. For a while the knocking stopped, but a short time later three men returned to the home and broke down a door in the backyard.

"One of them was real dirty, he was a mechanic guy and he was putting gloves on I guess to get in the house and not touch anything," Vasquez said.

His wife did what most of us would do: she took her 1 1/2-year-old son and hid in a closet, then stayed on the phone with her husband.

"She was just communicating with me on the phone and with the police," Vasquez said.

It was a phone call that may have saved her life. The three men left the home without taking anything.

They got away in a tan car before deputies arrived.
