Mom: Man tried to grab girl outside of preschool in Cinco Ranch
It only took a second for her motherly instinct to kick in
We have a stranger danger alert to tell you about after a man grabbed a young child outside of her preschool while she was with her own mother.
"You don't know whether to scream or cry," said Terra Mynhier.
But when Mynhier saw a strange man touching her children, it only took a second for her motherly instinct to kick in. It was a nightmare she never expected as she dropped her twin 2-year-old girls off at Little Ranch preschool at the Cinco Ranch Church of Christ on South Mason Road and Verde Canyon Drive in Katy.
"I had unstrapped one child and had her door open and was walking around to the other side of the car," Mynhier said.
That's when she says the man came over asking for money. She told him she didn't have any cash and assumed he would walk away.
"He had walked to the other side of the car where the child was already unstrapped... and began to stroke her hair... and he said you're so beautiful, we could have so much fun together," Mynhier said.
She says she ran to her daughter's side, but then the man walked around the car to try to coax the other child out.
"He even said, 'Oh there's two of you. Girls you are so beautiful, come on let's go,'" she said.
As her twins were crying, Mynhier lunged for her glove compartment and tried the ultimate bluff. She told the stranger she had a weapon and wouldn't hesitate to kill him.
"'I have a gun, I know how to use it. I will shoot you if you don't step away from my children right now,'" she told the man.
Although Mynhier didn't really have that gun the threat was enough to send the man running away to his own car. Now the mother hopes the man who terrified her family is caught before he gets the chance to do it again.
"I really feel this man is dangerous," Mynhier said.
During the scary confrontation, she says she got a good look at the man and his car. She described him as a light-skinned African-American, about 6 foot 1, around 45 years old, with dreadlocks and a tan cap.
She says he was driving a tan Honda Prelude with stuffed animals in back window and a cross made out of duct tape in the window.
Deputies have been out here at the school. Another parent may have seen part of a license plate so they are investigating that as well. He could face charges for assault.
The Cinco Ranch Church of Christ says it sent an alert about this incident to all parents. The church says it also notified other schools in the area.
