HOUSTON – A mother has been charged in connection with a 4-year-old boy's death.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 4-year-old boy.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said Kyron Barnes was found unresponsive at a home in the community of The Villas at Pine Lake on North Sam Houston Parkway and East Vickery in north Harris county on Sunday evening.
Kyron was taken to Northeast Hospital, where he died.
Investigators said they talked to family members and the information they gave led to Kyron's mother, Vastie Sharika Coleman, 27, being charged with injury to a child.
According to court documents, Coleman hit Kyron with a cord.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has not released the cause of Kyron's death.
Children's Protective Services officials said they have taken custody of Kyron's 6- and 8-year-old sisters.
