Mom arrested after child found home alone

HOUSTON – A child who apparently needs serious medical attention was found home alone on Thursday afternoon.

Harris County Precinct 5 deputy constables said went to unit 712 at the Crossings at Sedona Square Apartments in the 9700 block of Court Glen in southwest Houston about 1 p.m. to serve an eviction notice. When they arrived, they found a 4-year-old girl alone, hooked up to tubes that were connected to some type of medical device.

Shortly after the discovery, deputy constables said the girl's mother arrived with two other children, ages 3 and 1. Investigators called in workers from Child Protective Services then arrested.

The 4-year-old connected to the tubes was taken to Texas Children's Hospital to be evaluated.

A neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, said sh saw the whole thing from across the breezeway. She describes the mother as emotional.

"She was screaming and crying once they decided to take the child," said the woman. "She was just real upset. Real upset."

Deputy constables said the mother told them that she left for a short while to run to the store. She was charged with one count of endangering a child. Her two younger children were taken in by relatives.
