Missing vehicle at center of Bolivar double-murder mystery found

GALVESTON, Texas – Local 2 News has learned that a missing vehicle at the center of a double-murder mystery in Bolivar has been recovered.

Investigators say back on the night of March 6 a beer vendor found the bodies of two women behind Fisherman's Cove Food Mart in the 700 block of Highway 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula. The women were later identified as Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson.

Investigators say they believe the victims, both 24 years old and from Houston, were dating and that they were killed in different ways somewhere else.

Deputies say just days before their bodies were found one of the women purchased a 2006 silver Kia Sorrento SUV. That vehicle has since been missing.

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office says the SUV was recovered at a Houston vehicle storage lot Thursday evening. A Houston police officer was at the location on an unrelated investigation when he was asked to look at the vehicle because there was no license plate.

Sheriff's deputies say the officer checked the vehicle identification number and it was shown to be stolen.

The abandoned vehicle had been towed from the Ritz Cabaret on the Gulf Freeway. A manager told Local 2 the vehicle had been next to their property for about a month.

Deputies say they are processing the vehicle for evidence.

Britney Cosby's father, James Larry Cosby, 46, was charged in connection to their deaths. He is accused of tampering with evidence.

No murder charges have been filed in the case.
