Missing man with special needs found at local hospital

HOUSTON – The search for a man with special needs, who has been missing since Sunday is over.

A spokesperson with Texas EquuSearch tells us that 37-year-old Khai Nguyen was found at a hospital in Cypress, Texas. It's not clear how Nguyen was able to get to the hospital, or his current condition. We're told  it was a hospital employee, who noticed the Nguyen, and alerted authorities.

Members of Texas EquuSearch were desperately searching for 37-year-old Nguyen, a special needs man who went missing in Katy. They were searching a lake near his home, looking for any signs that he might've fell in. But so far there's still no sign of him.

"What brings us to an urgent concern is that he has a mindset of a 5-year-old. He cannot talk. He cannot really let anybody know when he needs help," said Frank Black, with Texas EquuSearch.

Black says Nguyen took off Sunday around noon from his group home in the 6100 block of Settlers Lake Circle East.

"The people had gone in to feed some other people there and he let the window down and pushed the screen off and went out," Black said.

Nguyen is 4 foot 10 inches tall with a bald head. He was last seen around a Walmart on Fry Road, wearing blue jeans and a blue sweatshirt and carrying a black backpack.

"We also got ATV's in the wooded areas out here looking through the woods, fields, any place he could be laying down and not be seen out there by anybody driving by. So we want to make sure everything is covered," said Black.

He says on top of Nguyen's limited mental capacity, he's also without critical medication.

"He does have diabetes and he hasn't had his last two doses of medication," said Black.

Nguyen has a limited understanding of Vietnamese and an extremely limited understanding of English. He often communicates with hand gestures and some signs.
