Missing Humble mom located: Apologizes to family for 'method' of getaway

HOUSTON – The missing Humble mother was located late Thursday after calling her daughter and apologizing for the method she chose to get away.

Ava Hicks said she is in Hollywood, California.

Ava Hicks vanished earlier this week and hadn't been seen or heard from since. The mother of two, who lives in Humble, was supposed to show up for an overnight shift at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital on Feb. 11, but never made it to work.

On Thursday morning however Houston police found Hicks' car unlocked in a parking lot across from the Greyhound bus station in downtown Houston on Main and Webster.

Her daughter, Alexis Toliver, publicly begged for her to call.

"Just call, Mamma. If you need time away, just let us know and we will leave you alone. This time and energy is draining and we just want to know you're OK," Toliver said.

Late Thursday Harris County Sheriff's investigators got another clue. Hicks debt card was used at an ATM in Hollywood, California.

"Her credit card was used in Hollywood, California, approximately 19 hours after her car was parked here. That's about the time it would take to get to California so we are waiting to verify that credit card was used by her," Deputy Doug Thomas said.
