A Houston soldier is reaching out for the public's help following the theft of her beloved pet.
Gage is a six pound, 2-year-old Maltese who disappeared in March.
Sherita Craig and her husband, Gregory Craig, have served in the U.S. Army for more than 50 years combined. Three of their children have also served. Sherita Craig said when her daughter enlisted and left home, it was Gage that brought her comfort.
“He's not just a pet, he saved me from depression, he saved me from loneliness," Sherita Craig said. "I owe him to go so far and to look so hard because of how he saved me.”
Gage has been gone for more than three weeks. A woman who lives in the family's Ponderosa Forest neighborhood contacted the Craigs after seeing missing posters in front of the family's home.
The woman said she was behind a vehicle that stopped in front of the home on March 18. She said a man pulled up as the dog played in the front yard and then she saw the man drive away with the dog in his vehicle.
Though the witness thought it was odd, she didn't realize she had witnessed an actual theft until she saw the missing dog signs the next day.
The Craig family is offering a $1,000 reward for Gage's return.
“You can have anyone drop him off and we will not ask one question," Sherita Craig said. "We just want to know he's safe.”
Anyone with any information on Gage is asked to call Sherita Craig at 281-936-1895.
