Miami driver records police officer allegedly speeding

MIAMI – A Miami driver turned the tables on a police officer by pulling him over after she said she observed him driving above the speed limit.

The incident happened on Interstate 95 at Northwest Eighth Street. The woman, identified as Claudia Castillo, recorded the entire event and uploaded the footage to YouTube.

Castillo said she flashed her lights and honked her horn to get the Miami-Dade police officer to stop. When he finally pulled over, Castillo used her cellphone to record the interaction.

Castillo claims she was driving 80 mph and still could not catch up to the officer.

"I don't know how fast I was going, but I can tell you this, I'm on the way to work right now," the officer said. "I don't believe I was speeding."

The officer would go on to apologize to Castillo.

Miami-Dade police is investigating the incident.

"The appropriate course of action will be taken at that point," Miami-Dade Police Department Acting Director Juan Perez said in a statement.

The police department released a statement Monday morning that said, "The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) has been made aware of a citizen video, which purportedly depicts an MDPD officer speeding in his assigned patrol vehicle. We take all complaints seriously.  In this case, the officer's chain of command will investigate the matter and take the appropriate course of action. We also take this opportunity to remind the public that we have a complaint process in place.  We prefer that no one places themselves or the community at risk in an attempt to capture alleged misconduct.
