Dad, teen stepdaughter shot during home invasion in north Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY – A man and his teenage stepdaughter are recovering in the hospital after both were shot during a home invasion in north Harris County.

The shooting happened in the 5100 block of Ola at Apala late Tuesday.

According to Harris County sheriff's deputies, two unknown men entered the family's home around 11:10 p.m. and a struggle ensued, during which time, Romiro Macedo and his 17-year-old stepdaughter were shot.

The family's neighbor, Gloria Perez, said a neighbor came and knocked on her door desperate for help.
"When he came and knocked on our door, felt kinda bad because we didn't answer the door," said Perez.

Perez said she didn't answer "because we thought it could be someone else."

The suspects took the family's white Cadillac Escalade, and other items, and fled the scene.

"We heard three rapid gunshots so I come around to investigate and there was a young man down in the driveway," said neighbor, Michael Ferguson.
Deputies later found the vehicle on Homestead.
It has been set on fire.

The shooting victims were taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious, but stable condition. Both are expected to survive.

"The little boy in the middle of the street, scared, so I just walked towards him and just hold him like this that everything will be all right." said neighbor, Christine Lujano.

Two more children were home at the time of the shooting, but they were not physically harmed.
Deputies say the family owned a food truck business, which may be the reason they were targeted.
