Men charged with trespassing for Garden Oaks magazine scheme

HOUSTON – Investigators say a couple of door-to-door magazine salesman have apparently been up to no good in the Garden Oaks neighborhood north of downtown.

On West 43rd Street near Shepherd Drive, neighbors - many of them older - have been getting an earful when they resist the threatening sales tactics.

"He was very aggressive, very combative. I mean he did not reach for me or touch me or anything like that, it's just his attitude," one resident said.

The aggressive behavior was on display when one of the doorstep peddlers showed up in court.

Micahel Carruthers, 35, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor trespassing and he'll spend a handful of days in jail.

His colleague, 46-year-old James Love faces the the same charge.

Police say no matter what your age, the adage still applies: Don't open the door to strangers.
