HOUSTON – Public memorial services to celebrate the life of George Mitchell are set for next week.
A private memorial service will be held in Galveston at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2216 Ball Avenue, on Tuesday, August 6 at 5:30 p.m. Following the service, a public celebration of his life will be held at Galveston's Saengerfest Park, located at 23rd and Strand, at 7:00 p.m.
A memorial tribute celebrating Mitchell's contributions to science, energy and the environment is scheduled at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands on Thursday, August 8at 7:30 p.m. The Houston Symphony will perform a tribute concert with remarks by special guests.
Those attending are encouraged to dress comfortably for the Texas summer heat.
The Mitchell family has asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in George P. Mitchell's memory to the Galveston Sustainable Communities Alliance, Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council, the Galveston Academic Excellence Booster Club, or a preferred not-for-profit organization that supports strong communities, environmental sustainability, or educational initiatives.
