Memorial Day deals and freebies

Memorial Day is about honoring the men and women who died in the service of the country; but some local businesses want to honor everyone.

Since Monday is a school holiday, some people may be looking for something to do with their little ones.  Look no further than the moves.

The Studio Movie Grill kicks off its Children's Summer Series on Monday, meaning popular kids' movies are just $1. The series runs all summer long with a different movie every week. This week's feature is "Over the Hedge."

Another cool kid freebie is "Kids Bowl Free" at bowling alleys all over the area. The program runs all summer long. Parents do need to go online to register their child first.

Hungry people can get unlimited 99-cent original coneys from James Coney Island, and then stop by any Wendy's for a free frosty. No purchase is necessary.

Active members of the military, veterans and national guard can get a complimentary lunch or dinner at McCormick & Schmick's today. Those who want to take advantage of the offer do need their military ID, and reservations are recommended.

Head to Hooters with a military ID for a free entree after purchasing a drink.

And all year round, military families and veterans get half off Houston Zoo admission with a valid military ID.
