Mechanical failure sends car plowing into building

Man, daughter not injured in crash

Tsifotu Ataklo and his young daughter are lucky to be alive after Ataklo drove his BMW 3 Series sedan right through the plate glass window of a business located at 13331 Kuykendahl Rd. in Spring.

Ataklo told Harris County sheriff’s deputies that his car malfunctioned. He said he was driving into the shopping center and was trying to put on the brakes when his BMW suddenly accelerated instead and he lost control of the automobile.

The car then smashed through the front window, crashed right through a wall and sped through the kitchen area, where it hit a large stainless steel oven and smashed a preparation table before it rammed into the rear wall of the building.

The business space that used to house Tommy’s Donuts was closed at the time of the crash.

Neither Ataklo nor his daughter were injured.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies told KPRC Channel 2 News that the driver will not be cited or charged with anything, because the accident involved mechanical failure.
