'Mattress Mack' Searches For Donor

By Ryan Korsgard

HOUSTON – Gallery Furniture owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale is looking for a generous boy, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

On Sunday afternoon, a boy named Logan walked in the front door of the store's Galleria location. The main location on the North Freeway is temporarily closed after a four-alarm fire destroyed its warehouse.

"I see this nice looking 11- or 12-year-old boy walking up there with his mom. His mom says, 'He wants to talk to you.'  I said, 'OK.'  He walks up there and he goes, 'Here, Mattress Mack, that's for you,'" said McIngvale.

It was a bag full of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars.

"I said, 'What's that?' His mom said, 'That's the money he's been saving to buy an iPod. It's $211 and he thinks you need it more than he does,' and he left me the money.  It was just ... it floored me. What a wonderful act of kindness on the part of this child."

McIngvale's friend took Logan's picture with him.  McIngvale said he wants to thank Logan, but doesn't know how to reach him.

"He and his mom got out of the store, and so I'd like to put out a call if anybody knows Logan or his mom, have them call me at the store," McIngvale said. "All of us at the store would like to do something nice for Logan because he did so many nice things for us."

If you can help "Mattress Mack" reach Logan, please call Gallery Furniture's store near the Galleria at 713-694-5570.

McIngvale said he plans to give Logan's money to Peace of Mind, a charity for mental health.
