Masked robbers caught on camera holding employees at gunpoint, forcing them to open safe

NBC News – Police in Lexington, Kentucky hope surveillance video will help lead them to the gunmen responsible for a terrifying robbery.

Two masked men entered Blue Grass Auto Parts early Thursday morning, holding guns to the heads of employees as they demanded money.

"At first they said everybody get down, and we kind of thought it was a joke. But, then they pulled out the pistols. And they immediately took two gentlemen to the back office and put them down on the floor. Told them to get down on the floor, held the pistol to one gentleman's head," said Gene Hudson.

Employees said the entire robbery took about a minute. Then, the men ran from the scene without a getaway car.

"They looked prepared. I mean, there wasn't any hesitation with what they did. They knew exactly where they were going to," said Hudson.

He said looking at the video, it's clear the men walked by the store for about an hour, before the robbery. After the crime, Hudson said it appeared that the men knew exactly where they were going, and how to get away from police. Police said canine units were out tracking the scent, but were unsuccessful.

"I have been here about 14 years, and like I said, I have never seen anything like this," said Hudson.

He said a crime this violent, this brazen, will change how this store does business. Blue Grass Auto Parts already has 14 security cameras, but plan to amp up security measures. After Thursday's robbery, one employee quit, saying he was just too afraid to continue. Now, when it comes to these criminals, Hudson hopes they have a change of heart.

"You have really traumatized several people, you need to find something better to do," said Hudson.

Employees said the men seemed young. They were covered in black clothing, with masks and latex gloves. One man had on a red undershirt and a grey hat, the other had on a white undershirt. The men were also carrying a black and grey backpack, and appeared to be very familiar with the neighborhood.

If you recognize the men, or have any information about the crime, you're asked to call Lexington Police.
