HB 81 heads to Calendars Committee

HOUSTON – A bill that would replace criminal penalties with a ticket for marijuana possession is taking another step forward.

Chairman Joe Moody’s House Bill 81 passed out of the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee on a bipartisan 4-2 vote, according to a news release issued Monday from the Marijuana Policy Project.

The bill now heads to the Calendars Committee, which manages the voting schedule for the Texas House of Representatives.

Once the bill is scheduled for consideration, all 150 Texas representatives will vote on the marijuana policy reform. The bill applies to low-level possession cases.
