SPRING, Texas – Investigators with the Harris County Narcotics unit were sent to a home in Spring after neighbors heard explosions and called in a fire, according to firefighters.
The Spring Fire Department said the fire at Tall Tree Ridge Way and Greengate started about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, and appeared to be accidental.
Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the lower level of the two story home, but crews were able to put the fire out quickly, according to firefighters.
Investigators said the occupants of the home were at the scene when firefighters arrived, but disappeared shortly after.
"We thought they were going to back up the car and park (elsewhere) to get out of the way, but they backed it up and left," neighbor Stacey Baker said.
According to investigators, they found jugs of fertilizers and marijuana in the home.
"The house could have been being set up to grow marijuana," said Chad Shaw of the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office. "From what I understand, what's been recovered is more than personal use."
One firefighter received first-degree burns to his hands and was treated at the scene, according to firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
