Texas' Largest Mardi Gras Celebration to Feature Two Weekends of Parades, Concerts and More

GALVESTON, Texas – The largest Mardi Gras celebration in Texas is underway in Galveston, marking the start of carnival season with headliner concerts, bigger parades and plenty of bead throwing.

Mardi Gras! Galveston festivities will continue from Friday, Feb. 28 through Tuesday, March 4.

Regular admission to the Mardi Gras entertainment district is $17 at the gate.

List of second weekend major events:

FRIDAY, FEB. 28
Danny Weber Memorial Fire Truck Parade, 7 p.m. (Entertainment District)
This parade is dedicated to Danny Webber Sr., who served 30 years in the Galveston Fire Department. Bring the family out as fire trucks from stations across the state parade down The Strand with lights and sirens. The parade will begin at 20th Street and Harborside Drive and continue through the entertainment district.

Krewe Babalu 9th Annual "All Krewe Parade," 8 p.m. Entertainment District)
This parade will include floats from krewes and business, civic and fraternal organizations throughout the region. The parade begins at 25th Street and Ships Mechanics Row and travels through the entertainment district.

Krewe of Maximilian Parade, 9:30p.m. (Entertainment District)
Take a walk on the wild side and join Krewe of Maximilian as they roll into Galveston. The parade will begin at 20th Street and Harborside Drive and continue through the entertainment district.

Clockwork – a Los Angeles based DJ known for his distinctive bass heavy and big room sound – will perform in front of thousands of fans at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28.

SATURDAY, MARCH 1
Krewe d'Esprit Rosaire Parade, 11 a.m. (Seawall)
This parade will feature high stepping marching bands, bead throwing and even some food throwing. The parade will start at Kempner Park, travel down Seawall Boulevard, and end at 27th Street and Avenue M.

Z Krewe 20th Z Processional, 1:00 p.m. (Entertainment District)
This year Z Krewe is celebrating 20 years of Mardi Gras with bands, beads and merriment. The procession's route will begin at 25th Street and Mechanic, travel east along Mechanic to 20th Street, and then proceed to The Strand.

Houston Chronicle Neauxs Krewe Parade, 2:30 p.m. (Entertainment District)
Hot off the press! This Neauxs Krewe will be rolling down The Strand at 2:30 p.m. tossing more than newspapers. The parade will begin at 20th Street and Harborside Drive and continue through the entertainment district.

Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler Parade, 4:30 p.m. (Entertainment District)
Let the good times roll with this festive parade as we wrap up the two week long celebration the last weekend of Mardi Gras! Galveston.

Knights of Momus Grand Night Parade, 6:30 p.m. (Seawall & Entertainment Di strict)
Mardi Gras! Galveston's largest parade will feature elaborate floats, marching bands, bead throwing and more. The parade starts at 23rd Street and Seawall Boulevard, turns right on 25th Street and continues downtown.

SUNDAY, MARCH 2
Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade, 1 p.m. (Seawall)
Costumed pets of all sizes, shapes and species join in the fun for this parade and costume contest. The parade begins at 28th Street and Seawall Boulevard and travels along the Seawall to 47th Street.

Mardi Gras Children's Parade, 2 p.m. (Seawall)
Firefighters Local 571 hosts a parade dedicated to the families and children of Galveston with decorated floats and costumed kids. The parade begins at 27th Street and Seawall Boulevard and
travels along the Seawall to 47th Street.

TUESDAY, MARCH 4
Krewe of Aquarius Fat Tuesday Parade, 6:30 p.m. (Entertainment District)
Mystic Krewe of Aquarius presents its Fat Tuesday parade in the downtown entertainment district. This grand parade, featuring marching bands, dance teams and dozens of lighted floats, will mark the final hours of Mardi Gras ! Galveston 2014.
