Population growth and excessive irrigation have led to water restrictions in The Woodlands area and violations are now being issued.

The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency says the plan has been effect since January 1, but they have started writing citations for violators.

The mandatory irrigation schedule is that odd-numbered addresses are only allowed to water yards from 8pm Friday to 4am Saturday, and from 8pm Tuesday to 4am Wednesday. Even-numbered addresses may water from 8pm Saturday to 4am Sunday, and from 8pm Wednesday to 4am Thursday.

The agency says they have 38 ground wells to draw from and the area growth in recent years and the summer water irrigation have taxed those wells.

They say by implementing the plan, the agency will be able to keep up with growth and water demand in the years to come.
