Man wounded in shooting near high school

Shooting happened near Elsik High School

HOUSTON – A man was wounded in a shooting near a Elsik High School in southwest Houston on Wednesday.

Houston police said the shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 6700 block of South Dairy Ashford, which is across the street from the school, about 2:30 p.m.

The victim, 21-year-old Denzel Redman, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital and was listed as stable. He was behind the wheel of his car when he was shot.

Redman and his mother live in an adjoining apartment complex.

"There was people running and shooting at this car," said Latisha Redman, the victim's mother. "More than one. There was two."

The shooters left their car at the scene and ran away. Descriptions of those people have not been released.

The motive for the shooting has not been released.
