Upon arrival, officers learned that Dionysios Kosmetatos, 36, and his estranged girlfriend had gotten into a domestic dispute.

As police tried to resolve the argument, they say Kosmetatos armed himself with a knife and lunged at officers. While officials struggled with Kosmetatos, Houston police say Officer P. Woods fired his duty weapon and hit the suspect.

Kosmetatos, who police say was combative while they were taking him into custody, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Kosmetatos is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated assault of a family member.

Officer Wood, a four-year veteran with the department, was not injured in the incident.

As is customary, this shooting is now investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
