Man, women use fake money to buy goods in Liberty County, deputies say

The office said it has received at least five complaints about a man and woman using counterfeit $100 bills to purchase merchandise from unsuspecting businesses.

Investigators said on initial glance, the dollars appear authentic. However, the bills are printed on a lower quality paper and have a statement in the front upper right corner that reads: for motion picture use only.

While the bills are used as stage money, investigators said the bills are close enough to the real deal to be mistaken for legal tender.

Investigators described the couple as a Hispanic woman and a white man. Deputies said they often target vendors who are rushed or too busy to closely examine the currency.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Liberty County deputies at 932-336-4500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867.
