HOUSTON -

The man accused of kidnapping his two sons and shooting at their mother faced a judge Thursday morning.

Jeremy Teel faced a magistrate judge on a charge of assault of a family member, one day after the dispute that set off an Amber Alert.

Harris County sheriff's deputies returned the boys to their mother Thursday morning.

“If you talk to my son, he'll tell you, 'Daddy hit you and he got that gun, that gun and he tried to shoot you mom.' That's what my baby said,” said the boys' mother, Jasmine Porter.

Deputies said Jeremiah Teel, who turns 5 on Friday, and Jayce Teel, 1, were kidnapped by their father Wednesday after a dispute between their parents at an apartment complex on West Gulf Bank and Antoine.

Teel was arrested at a Chevron that was within walking distance of the apartment complex. Porter said she told deputies to go to that Chevron after she spotted Teel walking down the road.

“I walked in the gas station, saw him sitting there. I told him, 'You need to tell them where our children are at,' and the officer came behind me. He wasn't hiding,” said Porter.

Harris County sheriff's deputies say Teel refused to tell them where the children were, but they were eventually located and returned to their mother.

Deputies haven't said where the children were found.
