Man who barricaded himself in Tomball hospital room in custody

TOMBALL, Texas – A man who barricaded himself in a room at the Tomball Regional Medical Center was taken into custody without incident at 10:47 p.m. Saturday.

It is unclear if the man will face charges. His son will remain hospitalized.

Authorities say the man was distraught about his son's medical condition and was with him in a hospital room in the critical care unit.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office previously said the man's son was a patient at the hospital. Officials say the man was threatening people in the hospital and they thought he might have been armed. However, Harris County officials learned the man had no weapons in his possession.

Harris County's High Risk Operation Unit arrived at the scene about 8 p.m. A negotiator was sent to speak to the man.

The hospital is not accepting patients at this time but has lifted its lockdown status. Police officials are advising patients to go to a different hospital if they are in need of medical attention.

No injuries have been reported.
