Man thrown through glass window at funeral

HOUSTON – A man was thrown through a glass window at a northwest Houston funeral home on Friday.

Claude Kibbie, 33, was fatally shot during an apparent robbery on Crofton near Trudy on July 25. Kibbie's funeral was held at the Paradise Funeral Home at 10411 West Montgomery on Friday at noon. People attending the funeral heard a loud crash during the service.

"We thought it was gunshots," said Jasmine Davis, one of Kibbie's relatives.

Someone at the funeral home thought a man who showed up at the service was the man who killed Kibbie. The man was then thrown through a glass window, Houston police said.

Several people then started to beat the man, investigators said.

The man managed to get away from the angry crowd and ran to a nearby car. Police stopped that car and the man was then taken to a hospital to be treated for numerous cuts.

"We understand that his close friends were angry and everybody wants answers, but this isn't the place for it," Davis said.

Detectives said the man is not a suspect in Kibbie's killing. Police called it a case of mistaken identity.
