Man stabbed to death during robbery at southwest Houston apartments

HOUSTON – Police are searching for two robbers who stabbed a man to death in southwest Houston.

“You stay right here. You're going to work and you think you're going to work and you get killed over some money,” said neighbor Aretha Jones.

Police said that's what two friends were thinking when they sat in a car at the Sebring Apartments on Beechnut early Saturday morning. Police said they are from Mexico and worked construction in Houston.

“They were literally waiting for the car to warm up and then they were approached by the suspects, one on each side,” said Richard Rodriguez with Houston Police Department Homicide Division.

Investigators said the suspects, who were carrying knives, were wearing hooded sweatshirts and had bandannas over their faces.

“The Hispanic male demanded the victim's property, one of the guys gave up his stuff and complied, didn't put up a fight. The second guy put up a fight, unfortunately he was stabbed,” said Rodriguez.

That man died at a hospital. The attackers ran away.

“We have kids and we always outside. This is our neighborhood and to have to come outside to see this, it's real sad,” said neighbor Elaina Jones.

People who live here said another robber shot someone else just the night before.

Elaina Jones was worried for her safety.

“I walk to work so what if it would’ve been me walking and I don't have nothing so that would’ve been me dead. You just can't trust it,” she said.

The second victim was not hurt.

Police worked to determine if a robbery that happened on Friday night was connected to the one on Saturday morning.
