Man shot with Taser, hogtied after police standoff in west Houston

HOUSTON - A three-hour standoff in west Houston ended Wednesday morning, when police hit a man with a Taser and hogtied him in an ambulance. 

Police were called around 11:30 pm.m Tuesday to a home on Confederate and Maribelle. Officers said a family member reported a man behaving erratically and threatening to stab his mother, then himself. 

Officers entered the home and tried to negotiate with the man, who was holding a knife to his neck, according to investigators. 

When a preliminary negotiator arrived, the man directed his attention at the negotiator. police said. Then an officer deployed his Taser causing the man dropped the knife. 

When officers detained him, he started to fight back. At one point, investigators said he dropped the knife and cut himself. 

He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his wounds. Police hogtied him in the back of the ambulance. 

Police say once he is treated, the man will undergo a mental evaluation. 

Police have not said whether the man will face charges.
