Man shot to death at home in northwest Houston

HOUSTON – A man was shot several times at a home in northwest Houston, police said.

The shooting was reported around 7 a.m. at a home in the 9600 block of Elmview Place Lane.

Family members identified the victim as Rafael Reyes.

Friends said Reyes was always the life of the party and very social.

"We were all together on Friday, and it's just hard to think that one minute we were celebrating and hanging out and laughing and now, he's gone," his friend Paul Gonzales said.

He said he didn't hear from Reyes for a couple of days, which was strange, so he came to his home and he found him dead in his upstairs bedroom.

"It looks like the guy has been shot several times," Sgt. Richard Rodriguez, with the Houston Police Department, said.

Police believe the suspect may be Reyes' boyfriend, who reportedly committed suicide Saturday, and that's all they're saying right now.

Gonzales described his friend, also known as “Ralfi” as someone who had a big heart, loved to be social, was a University of Texas alum and big Longhorn fan and a mama’s boy.

"Ralfi was everything to his mom, loved his mom. I know this is going to be a huge toll for her," Gonzales said.

Though investigators said they believe the man’s boyfriend might have shot him, the incident is under investigation.

“We feel pretty confident that our suspect has been found already and we know what happened,” explained Sgt. Richard Rodriguez with the Houston Police Department. “We need to confirm a few more things before we give out any further info."

Gonzales and his other friend, Erika Dejoyos, were outside Reyes' home Monday morning while the family was inside.
