Charges have been filed after a deadly case of road rage in northwest Harris County. A 25-year-old man opened fire on another man who followed him to his home Tuesday evening.
Travein Straughter has been charged with murder. Straughter, his wife and 1-year-old son went out for pizza around 7 p.m. On the way home, 38-year-old Daniel Leonel Lopez-Herrera sideswiped Slaughter’s vehicle, detectives say.
That is when things got heated.
Lopez-Herrera followed Straughter to his home on Valarno Drive and Breckenridge Drive, and allegedly threatened to run him over. That is when Straughter began shooting, firing several shots into Lopez-Herrera’s vehicle.
His mother said he feared for his life.
“He’s in front of my house, and you don’t live here and it’s a stranger. There is a kid here they have a baby, a 1-year-old,” said Bridgette Straughter.
Another resident agreed.
“You know, there’s no telling if he’s got kids in his house. So, he’s got a right to protect himself when this guy follows him home and knows where he lives,” said one resident who wanted to remain anonymous. “People are getting crazy these days. There’s no telling if he would’ve come back at a later time.”
Straughter’s bail has been set at $50,000.
His mother was in disbelief.
“But he’s at my house, this man is at my house, he’s at my house. You see the glass, he’s here,” Bridgette Straughter said.
