Woman arrested after leading police on high-speed chase across Houston

Houston police have arrested a woman accused of leading them on a high-speed chase across several highways early Thursday morning.

Police got a call around 1:30 a.m. about a reckless driver on I-10 and McCarty Street.  Police spotted the woman driving a minivan and tried to pull her over, but she refused to stop.  She kept driving along the interstate to the Gulf Freeway and then to Beltway 8, police said.

Officers laid down spike strips along the Ship Channel Bridge, but say the woman kept driving on her rims, causing sparks to fly.

She finally stopped along the beltway and Tidwell.

Police took her to the hospital.  She appeared to be impaired with either drugs or alcohol, according to police.
