Harris County Precinct 4 Constables said a suspect unleashed a spray of gunfire to terrorize his own wife, and in the process shot a man who tried to rescue her.

Investigators said around 10:15 a.m. Friday, the suspect drove to a nail salon at a strip mall in the 3000 block of FM 1960 and Aldine Westfield to confront his wife where she worked. Constables said the man was packing an assault rifle and hand guns in his truck. Investigators said the wife saw her husband coming, ran inside and tried to lock the salon door.

“As the suspect came to the door, he shots two shots through the door, entered the store and dragged her out,” said Assistant Chief Woody Mitchell.

Henry McHenry works at a barber shop two doors down from the salon and said he and his customer heard the gunfire. McHenry's customer ran out to help the woman by fighting off her husband. “They're tussling with the gun in the air,” said McHenry. “They're wrestling back and forth and I hear another shot.” McHenry said the husband shot the customer in the head.

“I grabbed her husband, grabbed him in a choke hold from behind and took the gun, threw the gun to the side,” said McHenry. McHenry said he held the suspect on the ground until constables arrived.

The suspected gunman's brother, Trong Nguyen later drove to the scene. Nguyen and his wife own the nail salon. He said he knew his brother and his brother's wife were having marital problems. Nguyen said his brother didn't like his wife working at the nail salon and didn't want her to talk to the men at the barber shop in the strip mall.

“I try to help them sit down and talk about it,” said Nguyen. He said the couple has two young daughters. “Scary for the kids and all.” said Nguyen.

The barber shop customer with the gun shot wound was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition.

Constables said the alleged shooter will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated kidnapping.
