HOUSTON -

Harris County sheriff's deputies said a group of armed robbers hit at least three different food marts overnight and ended up shooting a man in the process.

It all started around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators said the robbery spree didn't end until early Thursday morning.

"We believe there have been a string of robberies with the same crew," said Sgt. Joe Freeman with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "We believe we have three at this point that we can identify, the same individuals being involved in a very short period of time."

One robbery occurred at the Stop-N-Fly food mart off of Kuykendahl and Cypress Landing Road.

The other two happened at the same strip center off of Grant Road and Cedar Point Drive.

Officials said store clerks and customers were robbed.

"All of the sudden two men walk in, dressed in hoodies and they had handkerchiefs across their face and the one guy just kinda sauntered up to me with what looked like a 45," said victim Lucien Gambino.

Investigators said one man was shot in front of the Lakewood Food Mart when he put up a fight.

"They all had guns and I remember seeing the gun," said a man who did not want to be identified. "It was jammed at the back of my head and they just said 'be cool.' I tried not to make eye contact with them."

Police said they don't have a good description of the group because their faces were covered with red bandanas the entire time, but it is believed they got away in a light-colored Toyota truck.

The victim who was shot was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious but stable condition. We're told he underwent surgery and is expected to survive. His name was not immediately released.
