Man shot during fight over woman in Kingwood

KINGWOOD, Texas – A man was arrested after an argument over a woman escalated to a shooting in the Kingwood area, police say.

According to reports, a couple had just returned to their home off the 3700 block of Glade Forest Drive at around 2 a.m. Friday when the woman's ex-boyfriend drove up to the house. Police say  Victor Canales drove up to his ex-girlfriend's home and the woman's current boyfriend, Ambrose Johnson, met him outside.

"Apparently there was some sort of argument between the two men," said Officer R. White, with the Houston Police Department.

At some point, investigators say Canales pulled out a gun and shot Johnson once in the stomach.

According to the woman, she had no idea what the two men were arguing about.

"I was inside when I heard the gunshot. I came running out and my boyfriend was bleeding. I had to hold his stomach," she said.

Johnson, 28, was taken to Ben Taub hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police say Canales took off and drove to his Tomball home. Realizing police would find him there, officers say he took his two small children and left.

The Tomball Police Department, working alongside the Houston Police Department, managed to track down Canales and arrest him.

The two children were turned over to their grandparents.

Canales, 28, is facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
