Man shoots wife, stepson, turns gun on self

HOUSTON – There was chaos at the scene of an attempted murder-suicide in northwest Houston on Monday night as family members tried to get answers from investigators.

Houston police said they were called to a home on Fullerton Drive near Hammerly and Beltway 8 around 7 p.m.

Investigators told Local 2 the father allegedly came home drunk and argued with his wife. She pulled out a gun and asked her husband to leave. They said the husband took the gun from his wife and shot her. The wife then played dead.

The man's stepson came inside after calling police. Police said that's when the man shot his stepson, then shot and killed himself.

"I heard yelling," said neighbor Barbara Estrada, who lives across the street from the family. "I could hear voices. I didn't know what they were saying."

Stunned neighbors described the family as loud and annoying. They said police have been to the home for fights in the past, but they also said they never thought one of those fights would end in gunfire.

"I thought they'd get in trouble for the dogs, not for this," said Estrada.

"I would never think that it would get to that level," said neighbor Roxanne Mendez. "I mean, I know they fight but I didn't think a gun would get pulled out. (I) didn't even think they owned a gun or anything."
