Man sentenced for sexually assaulting teenage grandson on video

Jason Grant sexually assaulted child while then-girlfriend recorded him

GALVESTON, Texas – Jason Michael Grant, 36, was sentenced Wednesday to 99 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The state presented evidence Monday that Grant sexually assaulted his then-14-month-old grandchild on Feb. 24, 2012.

Evidence showed Grant sexually assaulted the child while his then-girlfriend, Alisha Drake, recorded the incident on her cellphone. Drake’s voice was briefly heard on the recording, along with the child’s screams.

Shortly after making the video, the phone was stolen from Drake and turned over to police. Police arrested Grant a few days later.

Grant admitted to being the man in the video in a statement to police after his arrest.

Shortly before noon Wednesday, the jury returned a guilty verdict after about 15 minutes of deliberations.

Grant faced a sentencing range of 25 to 99 years or life in prison. Late Wednesday afternoon, following a short punishment hearing, the jury returned with a 99-year prison sentence.

Grant is not eligible for parole because of the offense and age of the victim.
