Man robbed at gunpoint in River Oaks

HOUSTON – Residents in River Oaks are on guard after a man was held up at gunpoint.

"I was shocked," said resident Cecilia Harris.

It's an exclusive neighborhood with low crime rates.

Police said about 9 p.m. on Thursday, a man was walking in the 3600 block of Willowick. It's a popular walking and running path in the neighborhood.

"The streets are very quiet at night. There's not a lot of people walking around, so you are by yourself," said Harris.

Police said a light-colored car with two people inside approached the man. They asked for directions, but before the man could do anything, one person inside the car pulled out a gun and demanded cash.

In the end, a cellphone was taken.

"It is unfortunate," said Harris. "Sadly, we're not immune to it."

Detailed descriptions of the robbers have not been released.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
