HOUSTON -

A man was robbed at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon while walking to his southwest Houston apartment.

Police say the robbers were after his cellphone and money.

"He pointed a gun at my head, right in the temple, and said, 'Give me all your money, give me everything you got,'" said the victim, whose identity Local 2 is hiding because the criminals still have not been caught. "They took my wallet and my cellphone and told me I better start running."

The crime happened Thursday afternoon on Westbranch Drive near Bellaire Boulevard.

The victim fears thieves are targeting people for their phones because they can sell them and make easy money, making anyone who carries a phone a potential victim.

"One thing is, I never buy a stolen cellphone," said Sosian Sheikh, who buys and sells phones at a store just a few feet from where the robbery occurred.

Sheikh told Local 2 that retailers like him need to watch out and make it more difficult for the crooks to make money.

"What they don't know is there are plenty of ways to actually find out if a phone is stolen," said Sheikh.

As for the victim, he's glad his wife and 10-year-old son were not with him when the robbery happened.

"At this point, I hope they catch the people responsible," he said.
