Man reunites with biological family after being adopted over 60 years ago

NBC News – John "Jack" Etgen was adopted when he was a baby back in 1949 in Danforth, Maine. He moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Whittier, California.

Etgen found out that he was adopted after he graduated high school. "I've always had the notion of meeting my mom. I wanted to see what she looked like," said Etgen.

So for the last 20 years, Etgen searched for his birth mother. "A lot of people at my stage in life would never look for anyone anymore, but I just wanted to find out who they were," he said.

After talking with his daughter, she went on to Facebook and typed in Etgen's mother's name. What happened next was what Etgen had been waiting for. The search led them to a Family Reunion Facebook page, which led to a phone conversation with Sam Hafford.

"I was sleeping when the call came in. My wife took the call. The girl on the other line said, 'I think your husband is my father's brother," said Sam.
